Colin Whittington has a unique background that led him to
start his business, Recruiting Heroes. He served for 8 years as a deputy
sheriff in Virginia, but eventually felt it was time to transition out of law
enforcement.
As he navigated his own career change, Colin realized there
were few resources to help veterans, former first responders, and others like
him make the switch to private sector jobs. He started getting messages from
people asking for advice, so he began informally helping by offering resume
writing tips or LinkedIn optimization suggestions.
Before long, the demand made Colin realize he should turn
it into an actual business. Recruiting Heroes was born to help the "heroes
who have served us" find fulfilling careers after their time in public
service roles.
In addition to working with employers to match candidates
to open roles, Colin provides coaching to help former cops, firefighters, EMTs
and military translate their skills for private sector work. He assists with
resume updates, LinkedIn profiles, interview prep, and more.
For Colin, Recruiting Heroes combines his passion for
serving those who serve the public with an ability to utilize his recruiting
experience. It's rewarding to hear from happy candidates who have landed new
jobs thanks to his efforts.
Though he only formally established the business around a
couple years ago, Recruiting Heroes is already exceeding Colin's initial goals.
He has a steady stream of first responder candidates along with strong
relationships with companies looking to hire veterans.
