In this episode, we take a Deep Dive into what communication is and how to be better at it. Art Villareal joins us on today's podcast and gives a masterclass on being an effective communicator. Art retired from the San Antonio Fire Department in 2019, after 35 of service. During that time he had the opportunity to work in multiple divisions in various positions. He was a firefighter, arson investigator, a supervisor in the arson division, and the head of the arson division. He is also responsible for establishing a division of internal affairs and developing a safety division. Ultimately he was assigned to the fire protection division where he served as Chief over the inspection and was responsible for reorganizing the division for efficiency and effectiveness
His experience has provided a wealth of knowledge in communicating with different groups at various levels.
He credits the influence of becoming a formally trained interrogator to being the most beneficial of his communication skills to where he became aware of body language, paralanguage, and active listening. Using these skills effectively outside of the interrogation room and incorporating them into his everyday communication.
