Today we are in chapter three of A.B. Bruce’s The Training of the Twelve. In todays episode we focus on the calling of Matthew the Publican, or better known as the Tax Collector. The choosing of Matthew highlights the fact that the “foolishness” of God is so much wiser than the wisdom of men. Jesus cuts right to the heart of the matter and looks beyond the physical and piers directly to the heart and mind of the man. Matthew whose name means “Gift of God” changes from taking from people to giving the greatest gift. We learn that we should be ready to follow Jesus just like Matthew. At the end of the episode, we spend some time on the scandal of the party at Matthew’s house with Jesus.
