Day 5, But When you Pray… HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME
By Pastor and Mrs Chifamba
Matthew 5:16
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Psalm 111:9
He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.
Matthew 6:9
“In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.”
The Lord’s prayer starts with the words, “Our Father in heaven.” God is not only the God of the Universe but He also has a close, inmate rela onship with us. Then it says, “hallowed be Your name.” The Greek word is not hagios—meaning “holy, sacred, worthy”—but hagiazo—meaning “to sanctify.” How can we sanctify or make God holy when He is holy? Paul says that we are an open letter to be read by all people (2 Cor. 3:2). In 1 Corinthians 4:9 he writes, “For we have been made a spectacle to the world” (NKJV). People don’t see God, they see us. Our daily behavior can glorify God and honor Him, or it can dishonor His name and misrepresent the church and negatively affect its work (Ma . 5:13–16). - (Ten Days of Prayer Day 5, 2025)
Exodus 20:7
““You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.”
IT IS NOT ONLY BY SWEARING THAT GOD’S NAME IS TAKEN IN VAIN‼️OUR BEHAVIOR CAN BRING GOD’S NAME INTO DISREPUTE
2 Samuel 12:13-15
“So David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die. However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die.” Then Nathan departed to his house. And the Lord struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and it became ill.”
Romans 2:21-24
“You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal? You who say, “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonor God through breaking the law? For “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” as it is written.”
GLUTTONOUS EATING DISHONORS GOD’S NAME
Ecclesiastes 10:17
“Blessed are you, O land, when your king is the son of nobles, And your princes feast at the proper time— For strength and not for drunkenness!”
Matthew 24:38-39
“For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.”
Ezekiel 18:49
Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
Isaiah 22:12-14
“And in that day the Lord God of hosts Called for weeping and for mourning, For baldness and for girding with sackcloth. But instead, joy and gladness, Slaying oxen and killing sheep, Eating meat and drinking wine: “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!” Then it was revealed in my hearing by the Lord of hosts, “Surely for this iniquity there will be no atonement for you, Even to your death,” says the Lord God of hosts.”
1 Corinthians 10:31
“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
Revelation 4:11
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
