This week, Stan and Michael talk about the upcoming CDE Postgraduate Forum in Diabetes Management and a proposed saliva white cell count test that is associated with indices of blood vessel health. This test is another step in the build-up of evidence between oral health and cardiovascular disease. Our studio guest this week is Ryan Brewer. Apart from being co-principal of Start Properties and co-director of their sister company Pronto Management Services, Ryan is a recently published author, father, and person living with type 1 diabetes. Ryan has used his life experiences with diabetes, as well as developmental and learning challenges to develop into a highly functional, empathetic adult who uses his talents to the full to give back to his community. We chat with Ryan about:

• His recent tell-all autobiography, a deeply personal story of personal health challenges, unwavering support family, faith, self-taught problem solving skills and his current roles as parent and diabetes advocate
• His developmental disorders during childhood including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and audio processing issues, associated challenges in the self-management of his diabetes, and prognoses of his (lack of a) future
• Listening to your ‘inner voice’ and the power of one’s mind
