Episode 95: From Zero to Xero to Hero with Hamish Edwards
Is it good to keep doing the same thing over and over again, or do we strike out on a new path?
Here’s Episode 91 of my podcast series taken from my 98th 15 Minutes for Accountants & Bookkeepers LinkedIn Live Show which aired on LinkedIn on 15th November 2023.
I was international again this week in New Zealand!! My guest, Hamish Edwards stayed up until 1:30am to join me!!
How epic is that
Hamish is the CEO of Firmchek, the new Anti-Money Laundering software, but prior to that he was the co-founder of Xero!!
How cool that I get to speak to some cool people on my show eh?
We talked about, Xero's unique strategy focused on accountants and bookkeepers rather than small business owners. We also track the similarities with Firmcheck which is designed to simplify AML requirements during client onboarding and handle annual client due diligence checks automatically.
The software aims to be user-friendly and time-saving, following the principles of making things easy and saving time, similar to Xero's approach.
Hamish acknowledges that AML may seem boring, but emphasizes its importance for accountants and bookkeepers as they need to be well-informed about AML requirements, and Firmcheck aims to provide leadership and support in this area.
I couldn't chat to the man without mentioning the evolution of Xerocon and the lessons learned from Xero.
It’s a fascinating story so why not jump in
Hamish Edwards

"I'm Executive Chairman at Firmcheck, an AML management software for accountants and using my experience from the early days of co-founding Xero I help shape our future direction along with the rest of the leadership team. I'm passionate about using technology as a transformational enabler in the accounting industry and I've always seen it as a way for accountants to spend more time doing valuable work.
Before I co-founded Xero, I was a practicing accountant, and helped grow the family accountancy practice to the point where we were sold to Deloitte New Zealand. It was around that time that I co-founded Xero, and I helped shape the product and grew the customer base in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom principally by listening to and working with accounting firms."
