This is your host, Deborah Axé of You Are A Culture Keeper Podcast. Our wonderful guest today is Jasmine Miles who is a student leader at SDSU and in her 6th year now. She is working on her Masters in Science and Counselling with a focus on Social justice education, and Multicultural community counselling. She is interested in how both she and community can heal. Community Based Block Social Justice and Community Justice Counselling have been huge impacts in her sense of community. She is a Poet, and fella Pisces Queen. She shares how her birthday was more introspective this year. How trauma affects our negative self talk and her journey in learning self care. We bond on the loss of beloved family members and recovering. Grief anniversaries and how everyone grieves differently and that is ok. She says the most beautiful statement and that is: “I hold more than happiness and joy.” Such wisdom in this young body with an old soul.
We unpack the lack of support that communities of color have in this country and how two layers of support are essential to community wellness. We all know that race is a social construct. So we all get to support each other in decolonizing ourselves. We all have different layers of privilege or lack of privilege so we can connect on being the best humyns we can be.
