Today, I’m speaking with Ashley. She tells me of the two different birth experiences she had while living in the GCC.
Her first child was born in a hospital setting where Ashley had her waters ruptured without her consent which caused her birth to increase faster than she was ready for. Ashley had a moment where she decided to not get an epidural and relied on her faith to get her through the experience and birthed her baby vaginally.
By the time, Ashley was pregnant with her second child, she attended a birth within the hospital system and was more traumatized by that experience than the birthing mother herself. After that Ashley found the guidance of a local Wise Woman to walk with her throughout the second pregnancy journey and who also had a birth outside of the medical system.
In the GCC, it’s very difficult to actually birth in this way, so Ashley had to jump through quite a few hoops to ensure that she would be able to get a birth certificate and passport for her child once born.
Ashley did have the peaceful birth that she wanted, but had to enter the system in order to get the paperwork, which proved to be quite a journey in and of itself.
