In this episode, I speak with Rae. We talk about how in Trinidad, first time mothers don’t actually have the choice to birth at home with a medical midwife, but have to birth in the hospital.
Also most mothers that birth within the hospital system aren’t able to have their husbands/partners with them while birthing their baby.
Rae is also the first mother within the movement that I have spoken to who is RH-. She refused to take the Rhogam shot that can cause blood diseases and effect the mother in a more negative way than what it will do to the baby.
But even though Rae is RH- and didn’t take any Rhogam shots, she was still able to have 2 more very successful pregnancies and births without complication after this first birthing experience.
Rae’s next babies were born free of the medical system after she informed herself to the best of her ability about her negative blood type and weighed out the risk that she was willing to take and not take for not having the Rhogam shot in those pregnancies.
By making this choice, Rae was able to birth her two babies at home with her husband present at each birth, by her side.
