In today’s diet culture we see too many people having some type of eating disorder. With almost 4/100 females and 1/100 males diagnosed with an eating disorder and so many undiagnosed it is all around us. And eating disorders aren’t just a condition where someone either eats too much or doesn’t eat at all there’s a lot in between that and yo-yo dieting can often be right in the middle of that.
There are many long-term complications of eating disorders and a lot of my patients with gut health issues once suffered from an eating disorder, were in modeling, or bodybuilding where a lot of dieting was commonplace. This episode is meant to empower you to get the support you need to prevent these complications and inspire you to work on your mindset and support your mental health in 2021.
IN THIS EPISODE:
I interview my friend and esteemed colleague, Dr. Jayne Dubois.
Dr. DuBois stumbled into a career in medicine by way of bodywork. She graduated from the Brian Utting School of Massage in 2006, and went on to become certified in craniosacral therapy in 2008. One of her most influential mentors during her training was a naturopathic physician.
Dr. DuBois' clinical practice has been informed by undergraduate work in cultural anthropology, where she explored the interplay between power dynamics and sociohistorical forces on the stage of medicine. In practice, this affords her the perspective to consider both the intricacies of her patients’ cases and the systems they are situated within. She graduated from Bastyr University in 2018, with advanced training in constitutional homeopathy and IV therapy.
She spent her residency in a partial hospital psychiatric treatment center, where her areas of focus were substance abuse and eating disorders that co-occur within a variety of psychiatric conditions. This was followed by a fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Paul Anderson in the treatment of complex chronic illness. Dr. DuBois is currently accepting new patients at Full Circle Natural Medicine in Seattle. Her focus includes a naturopathic approach to primary care, complex chronic disease, and mental health with special emphasis on substance abuse and eating disorders. She also specializes in clinical hypnotherapy.
