Description

Welcome to Episode 36 of The Afghanistan Project Podcast,
where hosts Mikael Cook and Beth Bailey highlight the struggles of Afghans living under Taliban rule, and the efforts of individuals from a variety of backgrounds and political affiliations who have stepped up to provide support to the people of Afghanistan in the chaos that followed the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Our guest today is Parwani, a former Colonel in the
Afghanistan National Army Special Forces. As the former Director of Intelligence for the Joint Special Operations Command, Parwani talks about his efforts to repel the Taliban in the months leading up to the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, to include operating in Helmand as the province was overrun, and operating in Kabul until the Taliban took the capital on August 15, 2021.

Parwani discusses his evacuation to the U.S., including the
depression that overtook him when he was forced to leave behind his homeland. That depression abated when Col. Parwani joined the Afghanistan United Front, headed by Gen. Sami Sadat. Parwani discusses the goals and state of the AUF, and his hopes for the future of his country.
