- Summary: The International Space Apps Challenge fast approaches, we begin to ramp up outreach and planning for a great, hybrid in-person and virtual event!
What is the Space Apps Challenge?
- NASA-sponsored global event
- Vegas last fielded a Local Lead in 2019
- This is NOT an Innovate for Vegas event, we are facilitating with others (hint hint)
Early Days
- Local Lead meetings have commenced!
- Event pages are early-stage-buggy, that is normal
- Initial participant sign-ups begin mid-July (11? 13?)
Some Details!
- We will have a hybrid in-person and virtual event for maximal geographic reach
- Teams of 1 are allowed (but discouraged), Teams may collaborate but submit separate projects
- Those participants under the age of 18 will need parental permission (in-person participation may require a parent or guardian to attend with)
- Local judges and local prizes are on the table (more hints)
- Submissions will be due to NASA through the event portal at 11:59pm PT (Vegas Local Time) final day of event (October 8)
- Project Topics will be similar to years past (yet more hints!) but will be announced approximately one week prior to the hackathon weekend!
Our Plans Thus Far
- We have secured the International Innovation Center for our MCC
- We already have a Discord server, Special channels for discussion and a forum have been added for the Space Apps Challenge!
- Our website will have current updates and other info as well, coming as sign-ups commence in July!
- We will reach out to those in Reno and beyond Nevada who may want to join in, Vegas welcomes all!
- We have invited any offworld visitors staying at Area 51 to form teams with their colleagues back home.
- Our Monthly Hackathon Meetup will be available for those who want to learn more about Ideation and Sprints and how Hackathons are supposed to work… July, August, September, these will fly by like a, well, like a rocket.
