Social Meets News Meets Social
- - There has been a separation of News and Social, so that News appears on Social Networks
- - Community or crowd-sourced news (eg Patch) works, but barely
- - Algorithms are driving awareness, and this a problem
Making Local News a Social Matter
- - News as ad-laden entertainment splits reporting from experiences
- - Must journalists be held aloft in a crystal palace, or is there a happy medium?
- - If mere mortals participate in reporting on the ground, should they be held to a standard (credibility, researched reporting of any kind, etc)?
Experiments!
- - Modern news is often presented as though it were still printed on paper
- - Maps, Timelines, Open Data, Fact Extraction, Network Backlinks, and now so much AI… many modern tools, methods, and integrations are left out of the mix (not 100% true, but close)
- - Open Source makes more possible (and not everything is Wordpress)
