Clutzy Bella almost amputates her arm at her 18th birthday party and nearly becomes a Cullen. In lieu of the antics, Edward and his coven/family leave Bella to rot in Forks. Bella slips into a romanticized depression but enjoys some time fixing motorcycles with Jacob - who is falling for her (or her future baby? - what, spoiler) . Anyway, she does some wild shit that makes Edward think she dies and so he's going to die cause Romeo & Juliet so she gets to save him in this one...oh and Jacob's a werewolf.
