Description

“The All-Request Rock ’n’ Roll Jukebox,” hosted by Mike Saffran, on “99 BBF”/WBBF-FM (98.9), Rochester, N.Y. Originally aired 7 p.m.–Midnight Jan. 2, 1999.

Callers aired and other show highlights:

00:37 Dixie/Rochester (“Lucille”)

01:05 “No requests for NFL officials tonight!” — on account of their horrendous performance working the Bills-Dolphins NFL Wild Card playoff game (won by Miami 24-17), Jan. 2, 1999 — including taking away two Bills touchdowns (but five Bills turnovers also didn’t help! ;-)

02:23 Tom (“At The Hop”)

03:14 Gina/Gates (“Rock Me Gently”)

03:20 “I don’t think there are any female [NFL] officials. Maybe we need a few … women always have better judgment, right?” ;-)

04:13 Dan/Working inside a WUHF-TV (Channel 31) parking-lot security booth at East Avenue and Alexander Street (Rochester) (“Glad All Over”)

06:13 Joe/Greece (“Crocodile Rock”)

06:24 References to Buffalo Bills radio play-by-play announcer Van Miller and poor officiating by NFL referees — including a bad call against Bills wide-receiver Eric Moulds

07:17 Britannia/Working at McDonald’s, Northgate Plaza (Greece) (“Are You Lonesome Tonight [Laughing Version]”)

07:52 “God help us if we sounded at all like ‘Warm Nights’!… That’s the difference between a ‘Warm Night’ and a fun night!” ;-)

09:10 Michelle (“Silence Is Golden”)

09:41 Rick/Canandaigua (“Unchained Melody”)

10:11 Joanie/Rochester (“Shout”)

11:30 Reference to attending my first Buffalo Bills game last fall :-)

11:38 Ellis B. Feaster weekday morning-show plug: Psychic predictions for 1999 (I’d like to know: “Will it be Doug Flutie or Rob Johnson” as Buffalo Bills quarterback next season? ;-)

12:10 Playing a “DJ’s Choice” (“Walkin’ After Midnight” — also featured in an AT&T TV commercial)

12:49 Reference to wearing Buffalo Bills gear (hat, T-shirt, sweatshirt and jacket) — despite the playoff loss earlier that day (and to seeing fellow 99 BBF DJ Mike Vickers also donning his Bills jacket)

13:19 Maggie/On her way to play pool (and, afterwards, to get a Garbage Plate) (“Runaround Sue”)

14:05 “The water [is] just oh-so-delicious right out of the tap” — when it’s cold outside!

14:48 “The call letters stand for Benjamin B. Forman, but we are, indeed, Big Beatles Fans!” ;-)

15:02 Joe/Batavia (Home early from work, at Walmart, due to the weather) (“Let’s Live For Today”)

15:33 Lisa/Hilton (“Hanky Panky”)

15:57 Special note: Hosting a live, all-request radio call-in show was exhilarating and fun — but between answering and editing phone calls, finding and loading song requests, and simply keeping the show moving with music, phone calls, jingles, promos, music beds, sound effects, commercials and more, it also could be frenetic, at times! I actually was pretty well-disciplined at usually pre-loading what was coming up next; but, in this instance, when the song ended I most likely was caught without the commercial break loaded in the computer (thus, I probably was fumbling with the PC’s mouse and/or keyboard, manually loading the break, while also talking — very slowly — live on the air, in an attempt to cover it up!)

16:28 Doug (“I Got A Line On You”)

17:32 Don/Rochester (10th Ward) (“The Rain, The Park & Other Things”)

18:58 Maggie/Rochester (“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”)

19:18 Kevin/Hilton (“The House Of The Rising Sun”)

19:57 Lisa/Rochester (“Then He Kissed Me”)

20:57 Glenn/Brighton (“Get Together”)

21:54 Marie (with Bruce)/Greece (“Take A Letter Maria”)

22:15 Lauren/Brighton (“California Girls”)

23:15 Donna/Rochester (“Lola”)

24:04 Dave (“Pushin’ Too Hard”)

24:15 Reference to my MG sportscar (which comes out on sunny days only! :-)

25:26 “Thank you, Canada, for sending Doug Flutie back to us!” ;-)

25:47 Unidentified female/Rochester (“I Can’t Stop Loving You”)
