Description

This is a very raw episode of Yeah The Gals, as I sit down with Brinlie Madill - a young mum, photographer and midwifery student, who shares her experience of losing her Mum, Nikki to cancer and the way grief can show up in the wake of loss.

Brinlie shares the rollercoaster of what the last few years have looked like for her and her family. From the shock of her Mum's diagnosis, the realities of supporting her through treatment, and what life has looked like since she said goodbye - all while trying to be a Mum herself.

We touch on:

* What it’s like to become a mum just as you're losing yours

* Grief that doesn't come in stages (and why the hardest bit came 10 months later)

* The trauma of hospitals, health anxiety and PTSD after loss

* How parenting kept her going when she couldn’t get out of bed for herself

* Why asking for help is hard, but necessary

* What actually helps someone who’s grieving

* Letting go of timelines, pressure and perfectionism in healing

* Learning to soften, not shrink, in the wake of grief

If you’re walking through loss, supporting someone who is, or just want a better understanding of what it means to live with grief while the world keeps moving - this conversation will hit you in the feels.

Big love to Brinlie for sharing so vulnerably, and for reminding us that threaded through the pain, there’s light in connection, compassion and leaning into your people.
