Society has made marked progress in the areas of economy and technology in recent years than ever before in history. Experts however say, in spite of these advancements, people feel less secure than they did in the past. The sense of insecurity can be attributed to many factors. Identifying and addressing the impact of these challenges on our survival, livelihood and dignity is what is termed Human Security, a concept built on the sustainable development goals of the United Nations. It consists of seven dimensions: personal, economic, food, health, environment, community and political. Garry Jacobs, President and Chief Executive Officer of World Academy of Science, walks us through the importance of ensuring human security for all.
