This sermon is a reminder that God doesn’t call the perfect—He calls the willing. Drawing from 1 Samuel 22, we see David leading an unlikely group of soldiers—men in distress, debt, and discontentment. These were not ideal candidates for an army, but they found hope in following a new king. Similarly, God invites us to join His kingdom, not because of our perfection, but despite our imperfections.
The stories of Moses, Paul, and Peter demonstrate that even those who have failed, made mistakes, or been rejected can be used mightily by God. Moses, caught between two identities, became a leader of God’s people. Paul, once a persecutor, became a champion of the Gospel. And Peter, who denied Jesus, was still included and restored with a purpose.
No matter your past mistakes, your failures, or how unqualified you feel, there’s a place for you in the King’s army. God has a purpose for you that only you can fulfill. Perfection isn’t a requirement—grace is. If you’ve ever felt like you didn’t belong, this is a message to remind you: You belong here.
