Text: 1 Corinthians 10:1-13
Ps Jono Deenick
We are all familiar with cautionary tales like Little Red Riding Hood and The Tortoise and The Hare. They were designed to warn and to help children make good decisions even when tempted to do otherwise. God often draws us with love and rescue but He also uses warning and in our passage today Paul shows us that incidents in Israel's history stand as warnings. In particular they warn us of the peril of idolatry and they warn us that we are susceptible to that temptation even when we have experienced God's love and rescue. He also comforts us with the knowledge that God wants us to heed the warning and helps us when we are tempted. Nevertheless, we must hear the warning for our own good, lest we fall into the same error as the Israelites before us.
