Today’s Scripture:
1 Peter 2:22 (NIV)
He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.
Jesus lived a life of integrity. He was the definition of integrity. If we are going to be his disciples, he must become our role model. Yesterday, we talked about the the pursuit of truth. That's living a life that follows Christ. We want to follow our role model and not the world model.
Our anchor text says that Jesus committed no sin, and no deceit was found in His mouth. Jesus Christ lived with integrity. He was honest, and his morals were intact. As followers of Christ, we, too, must live a life of integrity reflecting the character of Christ. You can be part of the culture and say I'm just going to do me, but at what expense? I believe it's better for us to do Christ instead of “do me.” You do you; that's what we keep hearing, but we need to change this narrative to “you do Christ!”
When we live by doing Christ, we live a life that reflects his standards and character, a life devoted to God, his father, and unwaveringly committed to him. We must do the same, live a blameless life free from sin and deceit. How do we do this? We must always be honest with ourselves and with others, speaking truth. Pray for the grace and strength to resist temptation and ensure our actions line up with the word of God.
Jesus did this well so that his integrity could not be questioned. The Bible says, in John 8:46 (NIV): "Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me?"
Jesus was so sure that he lived a life of integrity and honesty that he called out his accusers and told them to prove him guilty of sin. Can you do that? Can we call people out on their accusations of us? Or do we have to run and hide? How are we living in our workplace? How do we show up as husbands and wives, as parents, as friends and believers? Are we living with integrity?
We must cultivate a reputation of honesty that gives us credibility with men so that when we stand, we stand in Christ and in his integrity based on our obedience to his Word.
Let's choose Christ over our flesh. Let's select Righteousness over gain in the moment. Let's depend on Jesus and his word to live a life of integrity that reflects the character of Christ.
