Today’s Scripture:

Matthew 14:14 (NIV)

When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.

Jesus was compassionate to everyone he encountered. He was kind and loving. He lived a life of kindness in front of the entire world. Are you a mean person? Or are you a kind person?

If you are a child of God, kindness and compassion must emanate from your life, and all those who come in contact with you should know that you are a kind person. Jesus's kindness is exemplified in our text. It says that when Jesus saw the large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed them. The Scripture did not say Jesus had compassion on them and went on about his business, doing his daily temple visits and preaching the gospel.

You see, compassion is more than an emotion; it's more than a feeling. Compassion always and must always lead us to action. Jesus had compassion and healed the sick. True kindness leads to action; it seeks to help others alleviate their pain and suffering.

If you say you're kind and a Christ follower but never stop to see about the needs of others, your character is questionable. We must look for opportunities to help those around us. That's one thing I'm afraid of not helping those who are in need. This could be encouragement, spiritual, mental, financial, or without time. It requires stepping out of our comfort zone, seeing the needs of others, and doing something about it.

Here's the crazy thing about kindness: It's not just to those we love. Jesus goes further. He takes off the boundaries and says, in Luke 6:35 (NIV): “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.

It's hard but doable. Jesus didn't allow proximity and position to stop him from being kind. He showed kindness through humility. The Bible says in John 13:14-15 (NIV): "Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you."

Family, let's serve with a humble heart, looking for ways to be kind to others and following Jesus' example of prioritizing the needs of others above our own.

I leave you with a powerful quote today to ponder throughout your day from Mark Twain; he said, “Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear, and the blind can see.” — Mark Twain.

May we live with such kindness that the blind see it and the deaf hear it. This simply means that the language of kindness is universal; no interpreter is needed. It's understood by everyone, everywhere.
