I believe this passage is helping us with a multitude of emotions that we experience in our daily lives and our daily walk with God. It is definitely not easy to stay calm, but we must Be Calm. One cannot rush God. Rushing God leads to frustration and disappointment; God cannot be rushed; he's on his own timetable, and he's never in a hurry.
He's never late. God is the Creator of the universe; he knows the end from the beginning; he's never rushed or can be told what to do. Be Calm, and be still in this season. We are prone to be frantic because of all that's taking place around us... all the different breaking news and bad news... but being frantic guarantees you’re not going to hear God.
Our emotions get in the way of hearing God because we are distracted, and our attention is being given to everything else except for God. Hence, not only are we supposed to be quick to listen and slow to speak, but we must check our anger at the door because external issues cause us to feel angry sometimes, angry about the dire situations we are facing.
Be driven by God's Word, not the news or what we are experiencing. God wants to respond to us in the way he so loves to with His love, peace, joy, and faithfulness.
Be Cool, Be Calm. God's got you.
