Today’s Scripture:
Psalm 100:4-5 KJV
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, And into his courts with praise: Be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; And his truth endureth to all generations.
When was the last time you thank God for his goodness towards you? Are you just complaining but forgetting to thank God? We are in the second half of the year, and if you are alive and listening to me, you have lots to be thankful about.
Stop being ungrateful, an attitude of gratitude leads to thanksgiving. Let's not become like ungrateful children who never says thanks. Those kids always end up not having much because the hand that you don't show gratitude for is the hand that will withhold from you. God delights to bless us and show us mercy but without thanksgiving, God will withhold his hand... When you don’t thank God for his good and his mercy, it is a sign of ungratefulness. You don't know some of the things that God saved you from be thankful.
Just tell him, Lord, I thank you for your goodness, you are a good God. Before long you'll be thanking him for stuff that you forgot to thank him for. Being thankful releases the blessings of the Lord over your life. What does that look like, he shows mercy. David says, for his mercy endures forever. I was listening to a song this morning and it says, "One, two, three
Up to infinity
I'd run out of numbers
Before I could thank You for everything
God, I'm still counting my blessings
All that You've done in my life
The more that I look in the details
The more of Your goodness I find" (Seph Schlueter).
One of the reasons we are not thankful or don't see a reason to be thankful is that we forget the goodness of the Lord, the times when he delivered, blessed us and saved us from death. The Psalmist says I will remember the deeds of the Lord, his miracles of long ago, and meditate on all his mighty deeds. Have you forgotten to be thankful because things are hard right now?
You don't get to choose to withhold your thanksgiving from the Lord, to be thankful is to be blessed with God's mercy and favor daily. Let's live our lives being thankful to God for his many blessings even when we are in need of a new one. If he did it back when, he will do it again. Be thankful.
