Description

Today’s Scripture:

Luke 15:11-14 NIV

Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them. “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need.

When we refuse to come under we are at a disadvantage. We become isolated and alienated from the benefits of submission. Jesus was the perfect example of one who submitted to authority, he submitted to the authority of his Father in heaven. Jesus submitted to the cross, to die for our sins, though it was hard, he submitted anyway.

Jesus said, nevertheless, not my will but thine be done. That's submission to the Father. Instead of it being his way, the way of his flesh. He submitted to the way of the father, the way of the cross. The prodigal son lost the advantages that he had when he was under submission. He lost the benefits of being under authority. He lost his covering, his shelter, the access he had to wealth, the favor and benefits of being a son who has access to everything his father had, instead, he now lives in a place of isolation, distance, and disadvantage.

Today, we do not see the advantages of being under authority because it's a society of takers, and self-promotion and no one wants to be told what to do. Now, if he was under authority, he would have had the advice of his Father, and would have possibly made better decisions and still have the benefits of submission because he would not have lost his wealth and even his dignity. Jesus knew what was at stake if he did not submit to his Father.

The prodigal son was ashamed, his lack of submission brought about shame and disgrace. When we refuse to submit shame is waiting for us on the other side. May we come under the authority of those whom God places us under, and to God so that we might enjoy the benefits of submission.
