Today’s Scripture:
James 1:22 NIV
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
Do the word, not do you, do the word. Everyone wants you to do you, but the Bible is not a do-you book; it is a the-word book. What the word command is is what we do.
We cannot live according to our flesh. That's the do-it-yourself mentality. When we live according to the flesh, we become self-centered and self-absorbed. We are not loving and kind, but we hate and are mean.
James says, do not just listen to the word, and deceive yourself. In other words, those who just listen to the word and do not apply it are lying to themselves. They are deceived.
You must do what it says; what does the word say? It says, love your neighbors as yourself. Do good to those who hate you, forgive those who hurt you, and be kind to those who are mean to you.
Family, we would have an amazing world if we would simply do what the word of God says instead of just listening and then not following what it says.
When we do not do the word and what it says, we are lying to ourselves, deceiving ourselves, and becoming weak in our faith.
Why were people called disciples in the ancient world? Because they would follow what their teachers say, and not just listen to what he taught them. When they followed, they were called disciples. In other words, they were doers of the word. You, too, must do the word.
Jesus says the man who hears the word and does not do it is like a man who built his house on the sand, and the one who hears it and does it is like one who built his house on the rock. What's the difference here? The one who Heard and does is on a firm foundation, and when the storms come, and they will, that person is able to withstand it because they are doers of the world and not hearers only.
Family, do the Word, live the Word, and you will be able to withstand the storms of life. Stand on the rock of the word of God. Whatever you will face this week, counteract it with the word of God.
Do the word and live above the struggles and storms of this life.
