fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Let's face it: Life can be challenging, painful, depressing, and distracting. Most of us live in a distracted world. We are distracted because if we live in a distracted society, we end up with a bunch of distracted people leading other distracted people. There's been no other time like the present for humanity. We have advanced in technology to the point where we can do so many things simultaneously in our daily lives. Honestly, we do have to be able to multitask in our society; otherwise, we will get left behind.

The fear of being left behind, overlooked, and becoming irrelevant causes us to try to get as much done as possible to stay on top of our daily lives and routines, even when it comes to our families.

In our text, the Bible tells us that we should "fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith...." The writer of Hebrews is giving us a glimpse into how we could live a focused Life instead of a distracted one. We must fix our eyes on Jesus. The word fixed here means to fix one's eyes up, but it also means to look away. Therefore, the Hebrews writer admonishes us to fix our gaze, our eyes on Jesus, to look away from the world and its distractions and to give full attention to Christ.

What does this look like? It looks like giving him your body, mind, and soul. Your whole self must be engaged with Christ and his person. It is not enough to know what Christ says or meditate on what Christ says—that's good, but it's not enough. You must do what his word says: look away from the world and focus on Christ. We cannot live this life to the fullest potential of what God called us to if we are not focused on Christ. When we lose our focus on Christ, we become overwhelmed with the cares of this life. That's when we find that we have unexplained sickness, we have mental issues, and depression because we have allowed the world and all its cares to distract us.

May we never allow the world to have so much of our attention. Family, keep your gaze on Jesus and live a focused Life. Keeping or fixing your eyes on Jesus helps you not live a discouraged and depressed life because you have the life giver and his word to depend on. They build you up in your faith and remind you that you are more than a conqueror, more than what people see. You are the righteousness of God, created in Christ Jesus unto good works.
