Today’s Scripture:
2 Samuel 7:18 NIV
Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said: “Who am I, Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?
In our text, God had given David rest from all his enemies, the Bible says. This was a time of peace for David, and he was grateful; he had a grace attitude. So much so that he wanted to build the Lord or the ark of the covenant a house. This is where the presence of God dwells.
Then the Lord spoke through the prophet Nathan and said, “Now then, tell my servant, David, This is what the Lord Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel. On top of it, God says I've cut off all your enemies, now I will make your name great, God says I'll provide a house for you and rest, and that his house and kingdom would remain forever.” 2 Samuel 7:8-16 NIV.
David says, “Who am I, Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? David shows gratitude. Gratitude is Grace-attitude. Gratitude is an attitude of grace, understanding that you don't deserve what you've been given or what you've experienced, but it's because of God's grace. When we have this understanding, it leads us to an attitude of gratitude. David expressed gratitude for all God was doing and about to do in his life. I call it Grace-attitude. This is a posture of thanksgiving, gratitude, and humility.
I'm humbled to think of his goodness towards me. Scriptures remind us “to give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV. Gratitude is to give thanks to God and to others for what you've experienced and have been blessed with. It's not always good that causes you to show gratitude; sometimes, it's some of the hardest moments in your life that you must show gratitude because the Bible reminds us to be thankful in all circumstances. This is Grace-attitude.
Family, The Bible mentions the word "gratitude" 157 times, more than "thanks" or "thanksgiving" which are mentioned 72 times. Therefore, the Grace-attitude is not just something we should do it's something the Bible wants us to live out every day.
Today, let's be grateful for today; the Bible says, “This is the day which the LORD hath made; We will rejoice and be glad in it…” Psalm 118:24 KJV. That's for the day. Here's what steals our gratitude, our Grace-attitude, the enemy; he reminds us of what we do not have, and he steals our gracefulness and our joy. He reminds us of the things we don't have and have been waiting for.
But we must see the things we need to be grateful for. That's how you silence the noise of the enemy, walk in Grace-attitude, and thank God for life, your job, your health, your children, your marriage, your singleness, your time away from work so that you can find yourself. Don't become ungrateful. Life is too short.
Whatever we do family, let the Grace-attitude be front and center, give thanks to God, that's the attitude of grace, of gratitude, that gives us long life and good health. God bless you. Walk in the Grace-attitude today and always.
