Philippians 4:13 NIV
I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
One of the things I am learning in my life is to depend on God more than I used to. Self-reliance leads to pride, but when we depend on God, he elevates us.
Some things seem so hard for us at times, and yet the Bible says, I can do all things; now, this puzzles me because when I look at some of the things I have to deal with, I sometimes want to quit and give up. It feels overwhelming. But quitting is the easy way out.
When the diagnosis comes and it is not good, I don't really feel like I can do all things. When the child that you raised to fear God turns to drugs and starts to hang with the wrong company, you don't feel like you can do all things. When money gets funny, and the bills are due, I really don't feel like I can do all things.
This is when we must realize that the script did not stop there. It says through him who gives me strength or through Christ, who strengthens me. Now, it's not just that I can do all things; it's that God can do all things, and because God can, then I can. I can because God can.
God can because, with God, all things are possible. He lives inside of us through the person of the Holy Spirit. It is not in that I can but Christ that lives within me; he can. Let's put it all back on Christ. I can do it through him. So, the bills will not get the better of me. The child that's acting up will not get the better of me; that diagnosis that was given to me will not get the better of me because my God can.
What can he do, he can heal me, he can deliver me, he can change my kid's life and turn it around, he can provide a way for me to pay my bills, my God can. Family, let us return to God and trust him again. When we say we can do all things we truly mean it because we know that our God can.
