Today’s Scripture:
John 13:14-17 NIV
Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
Jesus wants us to know the truth, but he doesn't want us to know the truth; he wants us to go beyond that and step into the next level and do what we know. He is the example, he showed us how to do it, but for us to know it and not do it is to disobey him, and it's to become a hypocrite because knowing is not enough. So many people know what they should be doing but they fall short of completing the process because they are stuck at knowing.
The Bible reminds us, “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.” (James 4:17). Could it be that we are sinning by not going back to school when we know that we need to get the degree to step into the job that we desire, or to get the promotion we need? He says anyone who knows good and doesn't do it, it is don from them.
Family, Jesus says if you know these things and do them, there's a blessing in store for you. There's something reserved for us called a blessing when we do what God told us to do. Knowing is not enough; we must do the thing. James says, faith without works is dead. Knowing is not enough. To know is to have the knowledge of a thing, but to do it is to bring that knowledge into action to produce that which you know.
It all comes down to obeying Jesus and following his commands. If you love me, keep my commandments, love one another, serve one another, and help each other. That's the will of God today for us, family. May you become a doer of the word and not a hearer only?
Again, we see the same words: there's a blessing for those who do the word and not for those who know the word. May you become a doer of the word and receive a blessing from the Lord.
