Today’s Scripture:
2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
As I watched the unfolding of the eclipse, I was awestrucked by its beauty, its splendor, and celestial appearance. My daughters were excited about it while they were also concerned about what was going to happen, as rumors began to circulate that it was the end of the world.
Yes, it was a day of people all around us looking up. Particularly in the US and Parts of Canada. No matter where I looked, people were looking up. It inspired me and got me thinking, and this devotional is the result of that inspiration.
What if we would all look to Jesus? What would the world around us look like? Would we be so hateful because of the color of our skins, would we be so unkind, unfriendly, unrelatable, and so distant from each other? The solar eclipse brought together a country that is so segregated, isolated, and cold towards each other that for a moment there was a breath of fresh air, and a sigh of relief. We were one, if it was even momentarily.
The need for togetherness requires us to look up, it requires God's word and God's help. He has given us the blue print to do this. He says to us, if my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their lands. That's looking to the SON!
Our land needs healing. The joy that we lack comes when we look to the SUN, not the SON, but the SUN. People rather look to the SUN rather than the SON. Why? Because when we look to the SUN, we are not confronted with our sins and the hate and envy that we have towards each other.
One of the unique things about the eclipse on 4/8 was that people came together, and when they did they had one goal to get a glimpse of the eclipse, the SUN and moon coming together in a phenomenon known as the solar eclipse. Some said that it was too short. We as humans needs to have an eclipse in our relationship with the SON, where the SON and man can become one. Jesus says if you abide in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit. It is time for us to encounter Christ in such a way that men would want to come to our lighting.
Where Are the examples for the world to take gaze of us, and see the SON in us and desire what we have? As believers we need to wake up and be the light of the world. It will not happen unless we humble ourselves and pray and seek his face and turn from our wicked ways.
This text speaks to the people of God. If we get it right, the world will be a better place because we are the reflection of the SON in the earth. God wants us to share the gospel. One of the unique things about the eclipse was the publication of it. It was all over the highway, leading into Canada and back and in other parts of the country and online.
For a moment, there was darkness, but just in minutes, the sun started shining again. Jesus, the SON, for a moment when he eclipsed sin, went down into the grave but, in a few days, resurrected, and we see the brightness of his light shining again in us and through us.
This is the gospel, this is the good news, this is the truth that the world needs. We must return to the command of the Lord to humble ourselves and pray and turn toward him abandoning our wicked ways, then he will hear from heaven, and forgive us and heal us. Making us one, having togetherness and love.
