Jesus is love, and love is God. He says, for God so loved the world, that's all of us, everyone. Love brings life; therefore, God gave us the ability and capacity to love.
Our scripture reminds us of the power of love. John writes "We have passed from death to life, because we love each other..." That's powerful. It means without love we are dead. John says previously, do not be surprised if the world hates you, he is saying that the world is filled with hate and that equates to death. So, Jesus came and gave us life through his death. By conquering death, he brought us back from death to life.
Hence, we have been given life and the ability to love each other. As such, we must live to love! And love to live because anyone who does not love remains in death. Can we be kind to each other? Share with each other and help each other? that's love and that's walking in the ways of Christ and not the ways of the world. People live longer if they have a plant to water in their house. Love is the essential ingredient to life, without it, we are dead.
John urges us to love to live and the way we do that is by loving each other. Let's love to live this week by showing random acts of kindness, helping others when and where we can, and not being so selfish that we miss an opportunity to pass from death to life. Family, the more you love the more you live.
