Matthew 25:3-4 NIV
The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.
The parable of the ten virgins is a familiar passage that holds many truths and essential information for us believers. In this parable, Jesus explains to his disciples what the end will be like. In essence, in chapter 24, he begins to tell them what the end will be like. He tells them to watch for deception and not allow anyone to deceive them.
Most of us stay ready typically if we have a presentation for work, if we have an interview we are waiting for, if we are preparing for preaching, or if we are about to teach or lead a board meeting. But rarely do we take time to stay ready for the coming of the Lord. We live in a time when the signs of the end times that Jesus mentioned to his disciples are all around us. It is a wake-up call for us to be alert and stay ready because Jesus pointed out no one knows the hour or the day.
Not even the angels nor the Son knows but the Father in heaven; he knows that hour and that time. This is crucial now to the story or the parable of the ten virgins. Jesus is telling them that because no one knows when the end exactly is, they must always stay ready. So, he tells them of the ten virgins, saying five were wise and five were foolish. He then tells them, "The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps."
We must wake up from our sleep at this hour when the Lord is soon to return. We must build up our most holy faith through prayer, fasting, and supplications unto the Lord. That's how we stay ready. We cannot afford to be like the foolish virgins who had no extra, no contingency plans, no prayer life, no dedication to the things of God. Stay ready, family; we do not know the hour, nor the day when the Son shall appear, but we know it could be anytime. Therefore, let us watch and be ready at all times.
