Today’s Scripture:

‭Matthew 25:7-8 NIV‬

“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’

Family, we are still dealing with the parable of the ten virgins. We are in the latter part of the Jewish wedding day. The bridegroom is here, and the virgins and the brides were alerted to his arrival, and they trimmed their lamps and prepared to go to him. To bring him into his bride. But the Bible says, out of the ten, the five foolish ones said to the wise, give us some of your oil.

Our lamps are going out. That is a serious statement because the moment they have all been waiting for has arrived, but instead of being ready for the moment, they are now in a panic state; they are in need of what they should have already had. They have no oil.

Now, it is important to note that oil here represents the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is that oil that Jesus is referencing here. So he's letting his disciples know that without the oil, the wedding party was not ready to meet the bridegroom, and without The Holy Spirit, no one is ready for Jesus's return. Family, we must stay ready. The Lord's return is at hand. We cannot be found without this oil of the Holy Spirit. We need the oil of the Holy Spirit; we must be filled with the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 5:18 says, be filled with the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:8 tells us that you shall receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you.

Thus, the oil is essential to us being ready and staying ready for the Lord's return. We cannot afford to be low on oil, low in the spirit. We must build up ourselves in our most holy faith. Stay ready. The oil was needed to give light to their lamps. Without oil, there's no light. Where the Holy Spirit is there's light. You cannot have the Holy Spirit and there's no light. That's a spirit, but it's not the Holy Spirit.

Romans tells us that if we do not have the Spirit of Christ, we are none of his. We are foolish if we think we can have light without oil. Oil is essential for light. Without the Holy Spirit, we are left out in the dark. On our way to hell instead of heaven. The Holy Spirit reveals the true believers from the false believers. Staying ready means having an overflowing and abundance of the Holy Spirit. Living out of the overflow of God's presence. We must consistently be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Family, stay ready. Be filled with the Holy Spirit, and keep your lives lit with the illuminating presence of Christ. Always being ready for his return.
