Today’s Scripture: ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭Mark 3:13-14 NIV‬‬

Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. [14] He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach

When Christ first calls us, he calls us to Himself so that we can live through him and for him. The call is to himself, not to do but live in, through, and for him. He then develops, teaches, trains, and makes us. What he makes us is fishers of men. There is a process to becoming what God called us to be. Why is the call first to himself? Jesus is intentional. He knows that to duplicate himself, he must pour into his disciples by teaching, developing, and training them.

All throughout his ministry, we can see him teaching, developing, and training his disciples. One of the lessons was to overcome the spirit of fear. He sent them across the water to the other side, and a storm arose; when this happened, they started to be afraid and worried, but Jesus was on board with them because he was their trainer, and so he wanted to demonstrate to them that they had power over the elements and the enemy.

So, to teach them, he got up and demonstrated how to rebuke the wind; when he did this, they marveled, but it was training for them. Later on, they would speak to men who were sick and healed; they would speak to the dead and come back to life. Jesus's call is to himself to develop us and to cause us to do what he does. More than teaching, the call is about making us. When his disciples were with him, they were being made. Jesus's call was that I will make you fishers of men. You cannot be made unless you are with him. You must surrender to him and be pliable in his hand. If you are going to be made by God, it will take breaking.

Peter was an example of one of the disciples who had to be broken. He was broken in his desire and eagerness to be more than what he was. Jesus knew he loved him, but Peter had to be broken. A time came when he denied Jesus. But that was a part of his making. In his denial, he was able to be truly repentant and solidify his love for Christ. He was made to the point where he would preach on the day of Pentecost, where over 3000 souls came to Christ in one day. That's a man who's been with Christ and was made in him.

The call is always to be with Jesus. Today, I desire to be with Jesus and spend time with him. He wants to teach, train, make, and develop us. More than having a platform, we need to be with Jesus. That's the call. Let's desire to be with Jesus today more than anything. That is where we are made into his disciples and reflect him on the earth. Remain with him, and in him, that’s the call.
