Today’s Scripture:
2 Timothy 1:7 KJV
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
In the spirit of God, there are 3 things that we get. None of which is fear. When speaking of the spirit of God, We must always be aware of the indicators of the spirit of God. One indicator is the Spirit of Power: The Scripture says, “But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the LORD…” Micah 3:8 KJV. Jesus said, “The spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me…” (Luke 4:18). In other words, he has given me power. The Holy Spirit is the express power of God.
Creation in Genesis was by the spirit of power, the holy Spirit was present in creation because it is the Spirit of Power, the power of God. The second is love: The Scripture says, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:8 NIV. The third is a Sound Mind (self-control). This has to do with the spirit of understanding. One thing we must know about fear is that it destroys love. Fear takes away power or leaves you powerless. Lack of a sound mind or self-control leaves you crippled to control your emotions and your impulses.
Fear is the darkness, the unknown, and what we can't see. Fear is not from God because it is not in the character of God. God gives us himself, not what is outside of himself. So the spirit of fear comes from something or someone else other the God. Fear here In this text has to do with timidity, and being afraid, not with respect and reference for God. It is not the fear of the Lord we are dealing with here, which the Bible says is the beginning of wisdom. That's reverence for God. We are dealing with a crippling fear that leaves a person powerless, afraid, and hopeless.
Fear, then, is from the devil's plan, and he gives fear to you to gain access to your imagination and expectations. Fear is creative power; it is creative in its power because it causes you to create a false narrative of your realities. We must kill the spirit of fear because it will kill us by crippling us and leaving us with a mediocre life.
How do we live above the spirit of fear? We must live according to the spirit of God, which is through the spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. We will dive into this in our next episode. Don't miss it.
