Today’s Scripture:
John 15:5 KJV
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Jesus said, "I am the vine." This significant statement identifies Jesus as the source of life and sustenance. In a vineyard, the vine is the main stem that supplies nutrients and water to the branches. Without the vine, the branches cannot survive, which means they cannot bear fruit without the nutrients that come from the vine.
The vine is the source; Jesus is the vine; therefore, He is our source.
He says, abide" or "dwell." in me. It implies a continuous, enduring relationship. When we remain in Jesus, we draw life from Him, enabling us to bear fruit. If you want to bear fruit you must be connected to the source - Jesus.
As we do this, we bring forth fruit, much fruit. Fruit in this context represents the visible outcomes of a life lived in alignment with God's will—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). It also includes actions that reflect God's love and grace to others. If we don't reflect God's love and grace toward others, we are not abiding in the vine or connected to the source of life, Jesus Christ.
Let's examine the fruit that we are producing. Are they fruits of love, joy, peace, meekness, gentleness, self-control, or hate, jealousy, and pride?
Let's stay connected to the source so that we can reflect him. The source of our life is Jesus Christ. We must stay connected to him by trusting him and remembering that apart from him, the source, we can do nothing.
