Today’s Scripture:
Esther 9:1 NIV
On the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar, the edict commanded by the king was to be carried out. On this day the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, but now the tables were turned and the Jews got the upper hand over those who hated them.
The back story to this originated from the actions of Haman who devised a plan to kill all the Jews. He was a high-ranking official in the Persian Empire under King Xerxes (also known as Ahasuerus). Now, you must see that Haman was the most powerful official in the kingdom next to the king. He had power, he carried weight, and what he said goes, except that the king could overrule his decrees. But he carried the approval of the king. He had power.
In our story, Mordecai a Jew and cousin to Esther refuses to bow to Haman this powerful official in the kingdom, this made Haman mad, and it infuriates him. So, he wanted to kill Mordecai, but he didn't just want to kill Mordecai after a while, he decided to wipe out all Jews.
This was serious, this was diabolical...But the Bible reminds me of Romans 8:28: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
God's sovereignty and His ability to turn situations around for the benefit of His people are highlighted in this verse. In other words, God will give his people the upper hand against their enemies. God will give us the advantage over every situation of doom and gloom in our lives.
If you find yourself in situations where the odds seem stacked against you remember that God is sovereign and works all things for our good. Just as He turned the tables in favor of the Jews in Esther's time, He can and will intervene in our lives to bring about His perfect plan. He will give us the upper hand.
Trusting in God’s sovereignty allows us to rest in the assurance that He is in control, even when circumstances suggest otherwise. Family, place confidence in God's word, not yourself and your abilities. Don't ignore the word of God and his plans written therein. God has a plan for your life, it is to prosper you, it's to give you hope and a future. You have the upper hand in every situation that you're facing today.
