Today’s Scripture:
Luke 22:42 NIV
“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”
Jesus was totally committed. We run from commitment because we think it will take away our freedom, but that's not true. Total Commitment is freedom. There's something freeing about commitment. Once Jesus committed to the task, he was free. He had no more anxiety about it; he never went back and prayed about it. He said, nevertheless, or yet not my will, but yours be done.
When we are totally committed, we accept God's will and sacrifice our will: not my will but yours be done. Half Commitment is putting our will before God's will. It's saving our lives instead of losing them for Christ's sake. In essence, we lose our lives with half commitment rather than saving them with full commitment.
Jesus, in this text, lets the disciples know how committed he is to his father's will that he tells them his food is to do the will of the Father. That's full commitment. Jesus knew his assignment, and it was more important to him than satisfying the flesh. We would rather eat than fast. We rather hang out than spend time with Jesus in prayer because we are half committed. When was the last time you spent time with God? Are you half-committed or fully committed?
