Today’s Scripture:
Ephesians 5:1-2 NIV
Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children [2] and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
When we are children, we are like sponges; we soak up everything around us. Children are desperate for love and affection. Without it, they fail to develop and grow. Love is the essential ingredient in a child's development, more than food or medical follow-ups. Why is love so important? The child must sense love, affection, touch, laughter, and kisses. It is recommended by doctors and experts that babies have immediate skin contact after birth and beyond for their development. Babies are dearly loved. If you remember having your child and beholding this miracle, there's no love like it, except for the love of Christ and of your spouse.
In our text, Paul says to follow Christ's example as dearly loved children. And I want you to hear me say it: You are loved! How did Christ love us? He gave us skin-to-skin love by dying on the cross for us so that we can know we are loved. He gave himself his skin-to-skin affection, loving us, holding us, caring for us, forgiving us, and sacrificing for us.
We are loved (Dearly). Jesus's skin was ripped for our skin, it was bruised for our skin, and it bled for our lives. That's love, and you are dearly loved. So, Paul says, "walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." We are commissioned to walk in the way of love; he didn't leave us there; he says just as Christ loves us and gave himself for us. We must imitate this love for each other and toward each other; that is how we walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself for us.
You are loved, Dearly!
Christ gave himself for us, that's love, that's touch, that's affection, that's having someone there who loves us dearly. In other words. Jesus loves us at a great cost, with much loss and suffering; he did it for us. He hung his head, and for me, he died; that's love, that's being dearly loved. Don't let the issues of this life cause you to doubt God's skin-to-skin touch; your blood is his blood, and your body is his body. God wants you to know that he loves you dearly. May you receive it and accept it. So that you can walk in it.
