The book of Judges tells us the story of 14 judges or rulers who led the people of Israel once they reached the promised land. These judges represent each of the tribes of Israel and are presented as military, civil and spiritual leaders inspired by God to guide and deliver his people at certain times. Judge Abdon governed for a period of 8 years. Judges 12:14 tells us "He had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy donkeys." His name means little servant and because of his offspring and the number of donkeys, which were not common at that time, the text implicitly tells us of his wealth.
Today God is asking you to list your assets, not how much money you have or is in your bank account but rather what you may not be appreciating; your family, your loved ones, your roof, your work... you can start putting together your list. There is a big contrast in the name of Abdon, which means servant or slave and how his offspring and belongings tells us in between the lines of his power and wealth. We think that there is power in money but in the logic of God there is power in service and wealth implies more than material goods, some cannot be bought. That today we may build and recognize our wealth from the Love of God.
May the Lord open our hearts to his eternal love 🙏💕🕊️
