John 6 is a turning point in the ministry of Jesus. He is approaching the second of three Passover Festivals that comprised His ministry, and all of His carefully laid out plans are beginning to show. Jesus, in unity with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit, has been putting these plans into motion since time began. Jesus' disciples saw a crowd of hungry people, but Jesus saw the fulfillment of plans He wrote long ago.
