Nicodemus had every credential you could want in ancient Israel. He was a Pharisee, a member of the Sanhedrin, a Rabbi of some renown, and not to mention one of God's chosen people. When Jesus tells him that his credentials would not be enough to enter the kingdom of Heaven, Nicodemus is incredulous. What credentials would it take to get to heaven? Jesus answer was simple: to be born again.
