Logan McKinney is a veteran and former law enforcement officer. After serving in the Air Force and transitioning into a career in law enforcement, Logan experienced a sense of emptiness and a lack of purpose. However, a turkey hunt in Southwest Colorado reignited his sense of purpose, camaraderie, and the will to continue. This experience led to the formation of Second Chance Outdoors (S.C.O.), with a vision to promote mental, physical, and spiritual wellness for our nation's peacekeepers.
In this episode of Connecting Kansas City, we have the privilege of speaking with Logan McKinney, the President and Founder of Second Chance Outdoors. Logan shares the inspiring mission of S.C.O., which is to empower our nation's veterans, first responders, and their families through outdoor experiences. By providing resources, education, and a supportive community, Second Chance Outdoors aims to make a life-changing impact on the lives of our nation's heroes.
Second Chance Outdoors recognizes the challenges faced by veterans and first responders reintegrating into civilian society after deployments or traumatic experiences. They believe in the therapeutic benefits of nature exposure and outdoor recreation as complementary approaches to reduce symptoms and promote mental health. Research supports the positive effects of outdoor adventures, such as recreation therapy and nature exposure, which can lower stress, increase oxygen levels, and provide a wide array of mental health-boosting effects.
