Chapter 15 - A Rumble Arrives
“I’m sorry to have disturbed you, Shine, but Spunky was right, we needed your spell,” said Moon.
“I wish you had howled sooner, Montgomery. You know I would have come,” complained Shine.
“I know, I know, but you have other concerns now,” said Moon.
“Excuse me if you please everyone,” interrupted Billy. “Reunions aside, we still have a situation to deal with. There are some stunned and confused badgers and Quillza not far off, that will be angry very soon. May I enquire as to how long your stunning light effects last, and if you can do it again?”
“Oh isn’t he so polite and proper,” commented Shine. “It’s hard to say for sure, but you are right, we do need a plan very soon. The light effects are temporary and cannot be repeated for at least one day, usually longer. The flash drains almost all of my energy. I am afraid I cannot help any further.”
“Billy, please rig up more honey ball catapults, they were very effective and very nicely designed. You and Clarissa can fire them with Radar’s instructions,” suggested Moon. “Sticky-up as many Quillza as you can. Spunky, and I will defend the ridge from the badgers when they arrive.”
As Billy predicted, the badgers and Quillza were very angry. Moon and Spunky descended on the angry badgers, their strong paws swinging. But there were so many of them, they were quickly overwhelmed and retreated halfway up the ridge still swinging, defending the tripwire headquarters.
Quillza were dropping from above, a sticky mess, hit by honey balls, unable to fire their quills.
“We will be out of honey soon, Billy. Then what?” asked Clarissa.
“Retreat to headquarters,” called Billy. “I will join Spunky and Moon.”
Shine was pacing in the den humming softly to herself.
“Oh, excuse me, Shine,” said Clarissa. “We are out of honey but I think we got most of The Quillza. There are still a lot of badgers crawling up the ridge. Billy has joined Spunky and Moon to help defend the den. He suggested we may want to move further into the tunnels.”
“We will be fine. They will be along in a minute,” Shine answered calmly.
“Ha… Adventures are more fun when you don’t lose,” sighed Clarissa.
“Goodness. We haven't lost anything yet,” answered Shine.
A moment Billy clattered in, followed closely by Moon and Spunky.
“Hello fellas,” said Shine calmly. “Oh Montgomery. Your ear, it’s been hit.”
Spunky caught Moon just before he toppled over asleep.
We should block the cave entrance. Are there any rocks nearby?” asked Shine. “Radar, could you take a quick look please?”
“Sure thing. Be right back,” answered Radar.
