Chapter 4 - Motch Magic

Spunky scooped up Molly and Abby and put them on his back.

“Let’s run and explore,” said Spunky.  “So fun.  So fun!”

Spunky splashed and boinged along the river shore.

“Hey what’s that?” asked Molly, pointing across the dead field.

“The Ridge Bridge,” answered Spunky.

“Oh we must go and explore,” insisted Molly.

“Oh no Molly, it’s far too late in the day for that,” Abby argued.

“No,” said Spunky.  “Not safe.  Home now.”  He turned and boinged back to the waterfalls.

Later that day, Molly was thinking about the markings on Spunky’s pendant.  “I’m sure I have seen similar letters before.”

Molly climbed into the bicycle basket, hidden in the bush.  She came back a few minutes later, flipping pages in a book.

“They are ancient ‘otch’ letters,”  said Molly.

“Otch letters?  What’s otch?” asked Abby.

“Well it says here, ‘otch’ is the language of The Motch, people with magic,” answered Molly.

“Yes, The Motch,” agreed Spunky.  “My friend was Motch.”

“People with magic?  That would explain how Spunky’s pendant has a sketch of our waterfall on it,” said Abby.

<<SWOOSH>>

“Hey!” screamed Abby.  “A porcupine tornado is trying to steal my button, again.”

<<SWOOSH>>

“Ow, stop that.”

“Quick Abby, hide in the basket,” yelled Molly.

Hearing the noise, Spunky came running up from the river.

“What’s up?”

“A porcupine tornado is trying to steal my button,” cried Abby.

Both Molly and Abby disappeared into their basket.

<<SWOOSH>>  <<SWOOSH>>

Now it was after Spunky’s pendant.

<<SWOOSH>>

<<BANG>>  Spunky knocked the porcupine tornado out of the air.  But before he could catch it, it whirled away.

“You okay, Spunky?” Molly asked.

“Yep, Molly.  All good.”
