Pastor Luke dives into Jonah in this message, continuing his study on the Minor Prophets of the Old Testament. While the book of Jonah can certainly be a lot to swallow, Pastor Luke divides the book up into a few parts to make it easier. If our knowledge of the book of Jonah begins and ends with a whale then we are missing out on what God wants to show us in this short book. The theme of Jonah is "God wants to save people who will turn to Him" or more succinctly "Salvation". Out of just the first 16 verses of the first chapter we can draw out several incredible points:
The disobedient servant of God
The call of God
Jonah’s flight
The contrast of God’s man and the pagans of the world
When the pagans are praying, God’s people are sleeping
When the pagans are seeking, God’s people are fleeing
When the pagans are bowing, God’s people are sinking
The foreshadowing pictures of the coming Christ
