The Ballarat International Foto Biennale is a 60-day festival held every two years featuring a range of photographic exhibitions in Ballarat.
This year’s festival, to be held August 26 to October 22, includes an exhibition featuring the works by 15 regional Victorian photographers, who responded to the theme The Real Thing and Russell Morris’ 1969 song of the same name.
Among five Gippsland photographers with photos in the exhibition is Andrew Chapman from Warragul.
Andrew has photographed much of Australia’s social and political landscape over the past five decades. His subjects have ranged from prime ministers, celebrities to sheep.
He has a passion for rural life, ordinary folk and the Australian bush.
Awarded an Order of Australia Medal in 2014 for his service to the arts, Andrew Chapman has published books, and has had photos published in Time, BRW and The Bulletin magazines.
Gippsland Perspective host David Braithwaite spoke with Andrew Chapman about the exhibition, his photography career and what makes a great photo.
