Today I saw a centipede in my mind's eye. They are all venomous and fatal to their prey of worms and insects. The large centipedes can cause great pain, swelling and fever in humans if we aggravate them but they are not fatal. We can live in great fear of centipedes or recognise that we are stronger than them and we can choose to try and steer clear of them. This is the same with Satan. He is dangerous but not to us when we call upon the power of God to be with us and choose to follow God as best we can. We heard yesterday in Psalm 107 that God always responds to our cry for help. 1 Peter 5:7 directs us to cast all our worries on God because He cares for us. To cast, like with a fishing rod, is a quick deft moment, not slow lingering thoughts beforehand. Then the next verse reassures us that this casting of worries on to God is our antidote to the potential attack of Satan. "Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour". The 'roaring' is to scare us into believing he is more powerful than God and certainly, of you, to discourage us from casting our worries on God and so dwelling on our worries instead. Don't believe the devil. We know the answer to the rhetorical question: "If God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31). Stay firm with God. All is well.
