Today I saw a lizard, more a house lizard like a gecko. They can spontaneousky lose their tail at specific joints, with no pain or bleeding, as a defence mechanism against predators. Not only can this enable them to physically escape an attack on their tail, it also creates confusion whilst the amputated tail continues to wriggle for a little longer. The tail does grow back. I believe this losing and regrowing of a gecko's tail is a good reminder that sometimes in life God takes away something seemingly important to us but it will be to a greater advantage to us in the preservation of our existence. When we follow Jesus, which necessarily involves loss of what is ultimately not good for us, we acquire something far more valuable - abiding in God's Kingdom with the accompanying eternal life. Luke 16:24 " Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it but whoever loses their life for me will find it ..."
