Today I saw a picture of a lit dynamite fuse, reminding me that the word dynamite comes from the ancient Greek word 'dunamis' meaning power, potential or ability. This same word was used in Acts 1:8 to describe the power of the Holy Spirit - "But you will receive power when the power of the Holy Spirit comes on you;...". Jesus had given an instruction to all His followers to wait and receive the Holy Spirit. In Acts 2:1-4 we read that "they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and seemed to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit...". Similarly, if we want the Holy Spirit and wait for Him, He will come to us in power, though from my experience and those of others I know, it is not like a fiery explosion but like a sudden awareness of God's awesome existence.
